Indispensable Website

After careful consideration and pondering over selecting a great website, I have come to a conclusion that Susan G. Komen has a website that is indispensable for me as well as others: http://ww5.komen.org/ .   I’ve arrived at this decision based on my life’s journey for the last 2 years.  In June of 2011….I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.  However, after additional doctor’s visits and examinations, the diagnoses were reversed to stage 1.  Early detection saves lives.  Because of the early detection, the doctor was able perform a one day surgery, with 36 radiation treatments to follow, and without having to go through chemotherapy.   Praise God!!!

Before being diagnosed in June of 2011, I was only familiar with Susan G. Komen by name and word of mouth through the media.  Therefore, after learning of my diagnoses, I desired to gain more understanding about breast cancer.  It is here, where I discovered the wealth of information, resources, and support available to the public on Susan G. Komen’s website.

Personally, Susan G. Komen’s website is great and indispensable because the site helped me to understand the facts about breast cancer in the African American community, the importance of early detentions and screening, the different stages of breast cancer, and want to expect during, and after treatments, as well as joining a support group called the Circle of Promise.  This pas

Again, Praise GOD for Early Detection!!! HIS HEALING POWER!!!, and THANKFUL for being in 2 years of remission.

My Day

Good Morning!  For one of our assignments in Technology in Communication, my professor challenged us to pick a day and list how often in that day we come into contact with computers, especially one that might be networked.

My day begin with purchasing gas at Sam’s Club….if you are not familiar with Sam’s Club, let me share, you have to be a member, before purchasing anything.  Therefore, my first point of contact for today, with a computer network system, was to first verify my membership by inserting the issued card through their network.  Next, in order to pay for the gas…I had to insert a second card…my debit card through the same machine but this time, the bank’s network to: first verify it was the right person assessing the account by asking for the password, and also making sure the funds were available in the account.

Afterwards, I arrive at work at 7:45 am to punch in by means of a computer system network called “Kronos Workforce Central”…then followed by logging into my computer to do my job for the next 8 hours.

After leaving work, I stopped at the Wal-Mart before heading home to purchase groceries, and it is here when I used a check as a form of payment.  Wal-Mart has their computer network system set up to check for backgrounds on checks and to fill out the check completely with all required information without having to keep the check.

Finally, after arriving home and before heading off to bed, I checked my Blackboard through DBU for announcements and emails for my courses, as well as worked on assignments for the day.  I also purchased tickets off the computer from Ticketmaster for an upcoming show.

What a day….although I come in contact with most of these places…especially my place of employment because I’m very familiar with their network as well as school….I really never thought about the other places such as Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart.

Life for ME in Social Media

Social networking is a living testament to today’s societies understanding and development of technology advancement.  Social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have been used as a tool for advancement in technology for networking in areas of meeting new people, locating new friends, finding new places to shop, and latest trends.  Also not to mention, social networking is viewed as being less costly for long distance communication, connecting celebrities with fans, and politicians with voters and much more.

Personally, I have been a user of Facebook for the longest time span and enjoy chatting with old classmates.  Also, it’s always a pleasure to see new posts, photos, of what my daughter, who lives in New York City along with my first grandchild (my Princess) is doing.  Also, Facebook was a valuable asset for me when my son, traveled with Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack Marching Band to London, England to march in the New Year’s Day Parade.  I was able to follow the sights and scenes he posted from his trip.  I enjoy seeing new trends, and how opinions change from one timeline to the next.  I find it very entertaining while learning and understanding hash tagging, J  and exploring different cultures through photos.

I’m still quite new to some of these sites such as Twitter and Instagram, but I’m finding out that they are also beneficial in meeting and connecting me with new people throughout the United States and all over the globe.  Again, some of these social networking sites are new to me but they’re so relevant this day and age, and I know that when I am able to use them at maximum capacity, they can greatly improve the quality of my life.
