Good Morning! For one of our assignments in Technology in
Communication, my professor challenged us to pick a day and list how often in
that day we come into contact with computers, especially one that might be networked.
My day begin with purchasing gas at
Sam’s Club….if you are not familiar with Sam’s Club, let me share, you have to
be a member, before purchasing anything.
Therefore, my first point of contact for today, with a computer network
system, was to first verify my membership by inserting the issued card through
their network. Next, in order to pay for
the gas…I had to insert a second card…my debit card through the same machine
but this time, the bank’s network to: first verify it was the right person
assessing the account by asking for the password, and also making sure the
funds were available in the account.
Afterwards, I arrive at work at 7:45
am to punch in by means of a computer system network called “Kronos Workforce
Central”…then followed by logging into my computer to do my job for the next 8
hours.
After leaving work, I stopped at the
Wal-Mart before heading home to purchase groceries, and it is here when I used
a check as a form of payment. Wal-Mart
has their computer network system set up to check for backgrounds on checks and
to fill out the check completely with all required information without having
to keep the check.
Finally, after arriving home and
before heading off to bed, I checked my Blackboard through DBU for
announcements and emails for my courses, as well as worked on assignments for
the day. I also purchased tickets off
the computer from Ticketmaster for an upcoming show.
What a day….although I come in
contact with most of these places…especially my place of employment because I’m
very familiar with their network as well as school….I really never thought
about the other places such as Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart.
